13 Oct 24 | A Prayer from John & Kerry Schischka
Each Sunday, a member of our congregation shares a prayer with us before the sermon, focused around what's happening in the world, our country and our community. We include them here for you to revisit and reflect on the words that they shared.
He honore he kororia ki te Atua
God of heaven and earth, through Jesus Christ you promise to hear
us when we pray to you in faith with thanksgiving.
We pray for one another, for our families and friends, through
whom we learn to love and to be loved. Thank you for all who care
for us. Give us grace to serve Christ by serving our neighbours and
our community, loving others as God loves us.
We are all called, “To proclaim good news to the poor; proclaim freedom for the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to set the oppressed free.” —Luke 4:18
God grant that we may seek and serve Christ in all persons, loving our neighbors as ourselves and to strive for justice and peace, and respect the dignity of every human being.
We pray for continued blessings on all peacemakers, on leaders who value peace, and on everyone who promotes nonviolent solutions to conflict. We pray for a swift end to all violence and warfare around the world.
We pray for the strength of heart and mind to look beyond ourselves and address the needs of our sisters and brothers throughout the world for the rural and urban poor; we pray for leaders who work for the common good rather than individual greed. We also pray for an end to the growing disparity between the rich and poor; and for the grace and courage to strive for economic justice.
We pray for leadership in Aotearoa and around the world that has a reverence of creation; that there will be the tools and the will to conserve it; that we will use the earth’s bountiful resources in the service of others; and that we will become better stewards of all that has been entrusted to us.
