Imago Dei | Mark 8:27-38

This morning I want to talk about the biggest flurry of theological discussion we’ve had in mainstream media for years. This was instigated by the open letter sent to MPs by church leaders regarding the Treaty Principles Bill.

David Seymour responded to this letter by stating that “I do have an enormous respect for the core Christian principle of imago dei: we are each made in the image of God. I like it because it automatically means we all have equal dignity…That belief, however, is totally at odds with the recent interpretation of the Treat of Waitangi, that it creates partnership between races.”

As someone who signed that letter, I want to look more closely at what imago dei means and our response to it.
